Texas Tech's three-game sweep of Kansas State was its second three-game sweep of the season (first since the opening series against Campbell) and the first Big 12 sweep since dropping Baylor in three games to conclude the 2002 regular season.
The series win over Kansas State was Tech's first since 2001 as the Wildcats had won the last two series (2-1 in both 2002 and 2003). The series sweep of KSU was the third since the two teams began play in the Big 12 back in 1997.
Texas Tech continued its success on Sunday as the Red Raiders are now 8-0 on the season including a 3-0 mark in Big 12 play.
Tech's five-game Big 12 win streak has vaulted the Red Raiders into no worse than fifth place and a possible tie with Oklahoma State for fourth (depending on outcome of Kansas/Oklahoma State game that went into extra innings late Sunday). The Red Raiders entered last weekend's series against Nebraska in ninth place but were just a half game ahead of Kansas who was in 10th.
The staff ERA dropped 24 points over the weekend as Tech allowed just five earned runs in three games. Tech's ERA is now 4.28.
Mary Anne Wilkinson was the winner of the Big 12 Giveaway Weekend Grand Prize. She and a guest won two all-tournament passes to the Big 12 Tournament as well as hotel accommodations.
Junior shortstop Cameron Blair extended his current hitting streak to nine games while Jose Delgado and Josh Haney moved their hit streaks to eight games.
