Tech Volleyball Signs Three Outstanding Student-Athletes

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball program is proud to announce the signing of three outstanding student-athletes to the 2004 squad, head coach Nancy Todd announced today. Tech volleyball is set to begin Sept. 3 at the San Diego State Tournament.
Todd is excited at the future of the team with the incoming class and feels they will all add something unique to the squad.
"I am really looking forward to this recruiting class," said Todd. "They will all be bringing some special qualities to the team both on and off the court."
Emily Ziegler will head to Texas Tech after a successful career at Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas. The 5-11 Ziegler will help the team out at both setter and outside hitter. This 2003 Captain was named to numerous teams including the 2003-2004 UIL state volleyball all-tournament team 4A, 2003-2004 Conference 4A All-State team and was the 2003 12-4A MVP. Zielger is also a four-year member of the Dallas Summit volleyball club team. Ziegler also brings a lot to the table academically, holding a 4.25 GPA and is ranked ninth in her class. She was named 2003-2004 academic all-state.
While one signee stays in the Lone Star state, another travels from Canada. Amy Charlebois hails from Waterdown, Ontario, where she attended Waterdown District High School. As a senior she was named Athlete of the Year and volleyball MVP. She also helped lead her team to win provincials in both 2003 and 2004. She was also a member of the Waterloo Tigers club volleyball team who won provincials in 2003 and 2004 and played for Team Ontario in the summer of 2003. Her team won the silver medal at the beach provincials and finished fifth at nationals. During the 2002 Ontario summer games, Charlebois was named to the All-Star team.
Brianna Florus joins the Lady Raiders after two successful seasons at Blinn College. The Flatonia, Texas, native led the Blinn College Lady Buccaneers to its first ever top-five national ranking and undefeated conference season and regular season. Blinn College finished the 2003 season ranked No. 4 in the final NJCAA Poll and finished sixth at the National Junior College Athletic Conference Tournament National Championship. Florus ranks 15th in the National Volleyball statistics in blocks per game and is the leader in her region in blocks per game, averaging 1.77 blocks. Florus also totes a 0.33 hitting percentage. Brianna was also named to the 2003 Region XIV All-Region team. Florus was also a member of the USA Junior Olympics.
