Tech Men's Golf Heads To Thunderbird/Ping Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No.36th-ranked men's golf team heads to the ASU Thunderbird/Ping Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., after coming off a tough weekend of competition. The Red Raiders enter the competition averaging 292 strokes per-round with sophomore Andrew Dresser leading the team with an individual stroke-average of 71.46.
Closely following Dresser is freshman Oscar Floren, who garners Tech's second-best individual stroke-average of 73.50 and has been a consistent second-place Tech finisher all year long. Tech junior Chris Pace is Tech's third-best individual with a stroke-average of 73.81, while William Haddrell, sophomore, owns the fourth-best individual stroke-average of 74.21. Closing out Tech's top five golfers is junior Shaun Melville with a 74.67 stroke-average.
This will be the first time Tech has competed in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, which has been dominated by its host No.10 ASU. The ASU Sun Devils have won on their home course 12 times and are the 2004 defending champions. The 15-team field consists of six teams ranked in the top 20 including No.7 Arizona St., No.10 ASU, No.13 UNLV, No.14 BYU, No.15 USC and No.16 California.
This year's ASU Thunderbird/Ping Invitational will be held at the ASU Karsten Golf Course (par 72, 7,037). The 54-hole event will begin on Friday April 9, 2004 with 36-holes and will conclude with 18-holes on Saturday.
