LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders will wrap up a short four-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon as they play host to the Dallas Baptist Patriots at Dan Law Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
Texas Tech and Dallas Baptist were originally scheduled to play back in late February but that game was postponed until May due to inclement weather. The Red Raiders enter the midweek game on the heels of a disappointing series loss to the Missouri Tigers over the weekend. The Red Raiders won the first game of that series 7-5 but the Tigers responded with 5-3 and 3-1 wins to clinch the series. Texas Tech is now 32-15 on the season and 12-8 in the Big 12 and has an unofficial RPI ranking of 29.
Dallas Baptist has been making quite a splash in its first year of Division I competition as the Patriots are 38-16 overall and have three Big 12 wins to their credit over Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Baylor. Dallas Baptist is not eligible for the NCAA postseason this year due to its provisional status. The Patriots are led by head coach Mike Bard who served as a volunteer assistant coach at Texas Tech and is the brother of former Tech All-American catcher Josh Bard.
Texas Tech will start Steve Gooch (4-0) on Wednesday afternoon while Dallas Baptist will counter with staff ace Jeff Gilmore (10-3). The Red Raiders return to Big 12 action over the weekend as Tech will head to Stillwater to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a three-game series beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.
