LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head women's basketball coach Marsha Sharp has announced the hiring of Tami Wilson as video coordinator for the Lady Raider basketball program. The former Lady Raider standout will begin her new position on August 1.
"Of course I am excited about this opportunity," stated Wilson. "It is a chance of a life time to get to work with coach Sharp and her program. It is also very special since my oldest daughter (Darrice) will be playing at Texas Tech next season. That is a unique situation and I am excited about it."
Wilson, a native of Seagraves, Texas, comes to Tech after spending the last three years as the head girls' basketball coach and track coach at Seagraves High School. Prior to her time at Seagraves, Wilson spent a year at Estacado High School as the tennis coach.
"I am really excited to add Tami to our staff," said Sharp. "She brings a lot of experience with her to our program as a head coach and as a former player here at Tech."
Wilson, a standout forward, played for the Lady Raiders from 1990-92 helping Tech to the 1992 Southwest Conference Championship and to two NCAA Tournament appearances and advancing to the Sweet 16 in 1992. In her two seasons, she posted a win-loss record of 50-19 (.725). In the Tech record books, Wilson currently ranks second on the career list for rebounding average at 9.72 and is sixth in career blocks with 117.
Wilson graduated from Texas Tech in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in general studies. She is the mother of three daughters; Darrice Griffin 18, who will be a freshman on the women's basketball team next season, Darchelle (Teddy) Griffin 17, and Devin Griffin 11.
