LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech center Cisti Greenwalt underwent exploratory surgery three weeks ago after a melanoma spot was found on her back, Lady Raider head coach Marsha Sharp announced today. The melanoma was discovered during a routine checkup with Greenwalt's dermatologist.
"We are not concerned about anything except for Cisti's health," said Sharp. "We made sure that the Greenwalts and doctors knew that we would do whatever was needed for her long term health, and we will see where basketball fits in after that."
Sharp said Greenwalt's surgery was successful. After meeting with Greenwalt's physician and the Greenwalt family, Sharp said the 6-foot-5 senior-to-be will undergo preventative chemotherapy treatment for the next month and is expected to return for the 2004-05 season.
"The doctors in Lubbock have taken great care of Cisti and we appreciate all they have done for her," Sharp stated. "All the Lady Raiders are behind her and we will be here for her especially this next month."
