LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders will tip-off the 2004-05 women's basketball season by hosting Rice Nov. 22. Tech will play eight non-conference games at home and three on the road. The Lady Raiders will see action against four teams that competed in the 2004 NCAA Tournament: Stanford, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi and Penn State, while three teams played in the postseason WNIT: Rice, Arkansas State and Idaho State. Two possible opponents, Virginia Tech and Western Michigan, played in the NCAA Tournament and postseason WNIT, respectively. "We feel like we have a quality non-conference schedule to prepare us for the Big 12 season," said head coach Marsha Sharp. "We will play a number of games at the United Spirit Arena and I think our fans will enjoy our schedule. We are particularly excited to be able to play Penn State at the United Spirit Arena and the return trip to Stanford will be a big game for us." Texas Tech will head west to California to play Stanford Nov. 28 and then return to Lubbock for four-straight games by hosting Arkansas-Little Rock Dec. 2, Miami (Fla.) Dec. 6, Oral Roberts Dec. 9 and Mississippi Dec 12. The Lady Raiders will compete in the Las Vegas Duel in the Desert Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., Dec. 18-19 along with Arkansas State, Virginia Tech and Western Michigan. Tech will face Arkansas State in the first round on Dec. 18 with the consolation and championship games set for Dec. 19. Tech will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule with three home games: Penn State Dec. 21, Sacramento State Dec. 28 and Idaho State Jan. 2. Big 12 Conference games and television games are yet to be determined.
