LUBBOCK, Texas - Got Tickets? Tomorrow, for the first time ever, single game tickets for Texas Tech football games will be available for purchase at off-campus outlets. And although Tech basketball and baseball fans, concert goers and patrons of Broadway shows have enjoyed the convenience of buying tickets at United Supermarkets and Market Street since the grocery chain entered into an agreement with Texas Tech Athletics and Select-a-Seat last November, Monday's opening day for football tickets is expected to bring many first-time users to the Select-a-Seat ticketing system. Texas Tech is coming off a year of record attendance for its football program. Director of Athletics Gerald Myers said, "When you combine the outstanding fan support we have, the prospects of a great season by our team, and the convenience of buying a ticket at more locations than ever before, we believe we have the potential to break home game attendance records for Texas Tech football again this season." Texas Tech anticipates an average of 12,000 to 15,000 individual tickets will be available for sale at Select-A-Seat outlets for each of the five home games this season. Football ticket sales alone have the potential to equal the number of tickets sold for five high profile events at United Spirit Arena. Single game tickets for the Oct. 23 game against Texas will not be available until Sept. 20, however, mini-packs featuring tickets to the TCU, Texas and Baylor games are currently available at the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office in Jones SBC Stadium only. The convenience of the system for football fans is huge. All outlets provide real-time, best available seating capabilities. This means that a fan purchasing a ticket in Snyder has the same opportunity to purchase a good seat as a fan in Lubbock. It also should alleviate the long lines at Jones SBC Stadium ticket windows. "We are delighted to partner with Texas Tech Athletics and Select-a-Seat to bring more ticket outlets to the university's fans and our customers throughout the South Plains," said Joe Womble, Lubbock Regional Vice President for United Supermarkets. In addition to nine Lubbock stores, United operates Select-a-Seat outlets in Brownfield, Lamesa, Levelland, Littlefield, Muleshoe, Plainview, Post, Slaton and Snyder. The stores offer the most ticket sales hours available at any Select-a-Seat outlet, operating seven days a week from store opening until 9 p.m. each night. Other Select-a-Seat outlets selling Tech football tickets include Dollar Western Wear, Ralph's Records, Texas Tech Student Union Ticket Booth and the main box office at Memphis Place Mall. Additionally, all outlets continue to offer a variety of other ticket offerings including concerts, circuses, Lubbock Lone Stars, Cotton Kings hockey games, wrestling and Broadway musicals. "While the past few months have been a tremendous success," said Womble, "it's all been a warm up for football sales, which should be huge. We anticipate many people using the Select-a-Seat system in our stores for the very first time this fall." Until Monday, Texas Tech football tickets were not available through any outlets other than the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office at the north end of Jones SBC Stadium. Season ticket sales and PSL purchases will continue to be handled by Texas Tech. Fans interested in season tickets or PSL purchases my call 1-888-GO-BIG-12 or (806) 742-TECH. The availability of tickets to bowl games on the system may vary, depending on the restrictions of event organizers. Texas Tech Athletic Marketing will use its resources to notify fans in the event game tickets will not be available at Select-a-Seat outlets. Select-a-Seat is operated by Civic Lubbock, Inc. and has been serving the citizens of Lubbock since 1990. Civic Lubbock, Inc. is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to foster and promote cultural, educational and entertainment activities, with a recent focus on public art projects. Revenues from the ticketing operation are used to support Civic Lubbock's mission, having funded such projects as "Naiads" by Glenna Maxey Goodacre and the commissioning of the bronze sculpture, "Knight of the Llano Estacado" by Eddie Dixon. Both works are showcased in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. Murray Hensley, President for Civic Lubbock, Inc., said, "We feel the expansion of the Select-a-Seat network last fall to include more outlets has helped increase attendance at the many quality events we offer. With the thousands of Red Raider football fans across the South Plains, we look forward to serving our many new Select-a-Seat customers and providing more resources to support the arts in Lubbock."
