TECH-NEW MEXICO SERIES COMES TO AN END
Texas Tech and New Mexico completed a five-game series tonight that began with the inaugural Hispanic College Fund Bowl held in Lubbock back on August 26, 2000. Texas Tech's loss against New Mexico gives the Lobos their sixth win in the series and Tech now leads the overall series 33-6-2. Texas Tech and New Mexico do not have a gridiron date scheduled in the near future.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
- New Mexico's opening touchdown came as a result of a fumbled punt by Nehemiah Glover. The last time Tech fumbled a punt was against North Carolina State (Wes Welker) last season and that also set up an eventual touchdown.
- Texas Tech's first touchdown came on a one-yard run by quarterback Sonny Cumbie. The rushing touchdown was the first of his career. The touchdown drive went 13 plays, tying the season-high set twice last week against SMU. The two 13-play drives against SMU resulted in a missed field goal and a touchdown.
- Taurean Henderson's three-yard rushing TD with 3:45 remaining in the first quarter was the 18th rushing touchdown of his career.
- Cornerback Khalid Naziruddin picked up his first career fumble recovery with 39 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
- Tech's first field goal of the 2004 season came at the 7:19 mark in the third quarter when Alex Trlica connected from 21 yards out. The field goal was the first of his career.
- Antonio Huffman's fumble recovery in the third quarter was his second recovery of the season and of his career.
- Senior Trey Haverty had a career night as he finished the game with 117 yards receiving surpassing his previous high of 58 yards set in the win over Texas in 2002.
- The last time Texas Tech lost a game on a last second field goal was at Penn State in 1995.
