Griffin Named Co-Big 12 Rookie of the Week

DALLAS - Texas Tech's Darrice Griffin and Nebraska's Danielle Page were chosen co-Big 12 Rookies of the Week, while Texas' Tiffany Jackson was named Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 24-30, the conference office announced Monday.
Griffin, a 6-1 freshman forward, averaged 8.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in helping Texas Tech to wins over Missouri and at Texas A&M last week. Against Missouri, the Seagraves, Texas, native scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds while adding two assists, a block and a steal. She was 7-for-8 from the charity stripe for 87.5 percent. Griffin got her first career start at Texas A&M and scored eight points and added career highs of 12 rebounds and five blocks. She also shot 100 percent from the free throw line, hitting all four attempts. For the week she shot 91.7 percent from the free throw line.
Jackson earned her first Big 12 honor of the season and the sixth of her career with five Rookie of the Week awards last season. Griffin and Page were recognized for the first time in their careers. Players are nominated by each school's sports information office and voted on by a panel of media who cover Big 12 women's basketball.
