LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior offensive tackle Daniel Loper (Houston, Texas) added another postseason honor Thursday as he was named to the ESPN.com All-Bowl Team for the 2004 season. Loper turned in a standout performance in Tech's 45-31 win over then-No. 4 California in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl last week.
The senior anchored an offensive line that gave quarterback Sonny Cumbie time to throw for 520 yards and three touchdowns in the Red Raiders' third-straight bowl win. Loper neutralized All-America lineman Ryan Riddle as Texas Tech shredded a defense that had allowed only 13.4 points per game.
The 6-foot-7, 324-pound Loper appeared in all 12 games in 2004 and started in 44 during the course of his career. The seasoned veteran anchored an offensive line that protected first-year starting quarterback Sonny Cumbie, who led the country in passing and total offense. Loper's size and strength were his greatest attributes while a Red Raider as well as his ability as a team leader.
