Grant Named Preseason All-Big 12

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior point guard Erin Grant was named Preseason All-Big 12 in a vote by the league's head coaches, which was announced today by the conference office. Seniors Chesley Dabbs and LaToya Davis and junior Alesha Robertson were named preseason honorable mention All-Big 12 as well.
Grant enters the season already owning the Texas Tech career assists record with 661. That total currently stands third all-time in the Big 12, while Grant is on pace to break the Big 12 record of 764 this year. She has been named a preseason candidate for The State Farm Wade Trophy and the Wooden Award, both presented annually to the nation's top player.
Dabbs, one of the best defenders in the conference, averaged 12.2 points per game last season, while Davis and Robertson are Tech's top returning scorers at 12.5 points per contest. Davis led the Big 12 in field goal percentage last year, shooting 61.3 percent from the field. Robertson was Tech's top three-point threat last season, shooting 37.3 percent from behind the arc.
Sophia Young (Baylor) was named Big 12 women's basketball Preseason Player of the Year while Shaquina Mosley (Kansas) was chosen Preseason Newcomer of the Year and Courtney Paris (Oklahoma) was selected Preseason Freshman of the Year.
Joining Grant and Young on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team are Kiera Hardy (Nebraska), Leah Rush (Oklahoma) and Tiffany Jackson (Texas). Young, Hardy, Jackson and Grant were members of the 2004-05 All-Big 12 First Team while Rush was a second team selection.
