LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Head Baseball Coach Larry Hays and the 2005 Red Raiders are pleased to announce a season-long partnership with the Lubbock Chapter of the American Red Cross.
In a Thursday morning press conference, Texas Tech Baseball and the Lubbock Chapter of the American Red Cross announced a fund raising opportunity that will allow baseball fans and local citizens to make home run pledges. Through TeamMates for Red Cross, individuals pledge a set contribution to the local Red Cross chapter for the number of home-runs hit by Texas Tech during this season.
"I am a history guy and you will be hard pressed to thumb through any American history book and not find reference to the American Red Cross," said Hays. "The American Red Cross has meant so much for our nation for many years and it has meant a lot to the this community. In 1970 a disaster hit Lubbock and the Red Cross was instrumental in our city's recovery so I think this is an important fund raiser for our community. Our team is extremely excited to be part of this initiative and I know our fans will support this program very well."
Through TeamMates for Red Cross, Red Raider fans can show their support for Red Raider baseball and help assure a prepared community through a strong Red Cross chapter. All proceeds from TeamMates for Red Cross will remain with the South Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross, and will assist in their life saving mission of preventing, preparing, and responding to emergencies.
"We are thrilled to have Coach Hays and Red Raider Baseball partner with the American Red Cross. TeamMates for Red Cross is an exciting opportunity to show support for our Red Raiders and support for the Red Cross," said Greg Bruce, South Plains Regional Red Cross Board Chairman. " We are glad to have Coach Hays and his team be a part of our team."
Paid pledges for TeamMates for Red Cross will receive special collectable Red Raider Baseball items based on level of support.
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Pledge forms will be available at Dan Law Field and more information can be obtained by calling the Red Cross at (806) 765-8534.
