No. 22 Texas Tech returns to Dan Law Field this week where the Red Raiders will open a four-game homestand on Tuesday against Texas-Arlington at 3 p.m. Following Tuesday's game against the Mavericks, Tech will host the Northern Iowa Panthers in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The game against UTA is the first of two scheduled games between the two schools as Tech will travel to Arlington for a 3 p.m. game on March 29 at Clay Gould Ballpark. Texas Tech and UTA are meeting on the diamond for the first since March 30, 1999, when Tech won an 8-3 game at Dan Law Field.
Texas Tech enters the game following a weekend sweep at the First Annual Rockhounds College Classic at First American Bank Ballpark in Midland. The Red Raiders defeated Lamar 5-3 on Saturday evening before handling UTSA 22-7 and New Mexico State 7-4 on Sunday afternoon. The three wins ran Tech's overall record to 11-1 and signals the best start for a Red Raider squad since the 1997 season when Tech also jumped out 11- 1 to begin the year. A win against UTSA would be the best start to a season for Tech since 1991 when that team jumped out of the gates at 12-1.
UTA enters Tuesday's game with an overall record of 7-7 after sweeping a weekend series against Texas-Pan American. UTA's biggest win of the young season was unquestionably a 9-6 win against No. 8 Baylor in Waco back on Feb. 15. The Mavericks are 1-2 this year against Big 12 opponents as they fell to Kansas State and Texas in their other Big 12 match-ups. UTA comes into the game with a team batting average of .256 while the pitching staff has a solid ERA of 3.23
