
First Day of Track Championships in the Books

Fayetteville, Ark. - Day one of the 2005 NCAA Track and Field Championships have concluded in Fayetteville this evening. The Red Raider men and women will continue competition tomorrow.
In the 800M prelims, Jonathan Johnson finished first overall with his mark of 1:48.42. Coming into today's race, Johnson was ranked no.1 in the country in the event and his time of 1:47.22, coming at ISU last weekend, was the Johnson's time was .28 seconds faster then two-time defending 800M national champion Nate Brannen of Michigan. Johnson will be running in the finals of the event tomorrow.
In the 60M dash, Tyree Gailes ran a personal-best 6.70 in the prelims. Gailes finished sixth overall and ahead of Big 12 Champion Dusty Stamer, who finished in seventh place.
In the 400M prelims, Licretia Sibley ran a 53.70 and fell short of qualifying for the finals in the event.
In the high jump, Lacy Wilson finished in a tie for 11th place with her jump of 5'-9.25".
In the pole vault, Sage Thames finished 13th with a jump of 16'-10.75".
Competing tomorrow will be Jonathan Johnson in the 800M, Tyree Gailes in the 60M and the men's and women's 4x400M relays.
