Lady Raiders Selected to 16th Straight NCAA Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders will open the 2005 NCAA Women's Championship as the No. 4 seed in the Philadelphia Region when play gets underway in the preliminary rounds in Dallas later this week. The NCAA Women's Basketball Selection Committee announced the field of 64 teams Sunday afternoon.
The first and second rounds in Dallas will field four games Sat., March 19, and two games Mon., March 21. The winners of Monday's game will advance to their respective regional semifinals.
The Lady Raiders will face No. 13 Texas-Arlington, while No. 5-seed North Carolina State and No. 12-seed Middle Tennessee State also meet as part of the Philadelphia Region.
No. 3 Texas and No. 14 Oral Roberts will meet in the first round of the Chattanooga Region in Dallas and No. 6 Georgia and No. 11 Rice will square off in the other game of that region.
This year marks the first time that the women's tournament will play under an eight-team, eight-site format. Previously, 16 sites of four teams served as the format.
