TECH TAKES ON HOUSTON IN FINAL TUNE-UP BEFORE BIG 12
The 24th-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders will get one final non-conference tune-up before Big 12 play begins this weekend as Tech will take on the Houston Cougars on Tuesday night in Midland. The Red Raiders and Cougars will throw the first pitch at 7 p.m. at First American Bank Ballpark.
Texas Tech alumni and fans in the Permian Basin can join the Texas Tech Alumni Association in a pregame tailgate/picnic. The picnic begins at 6 p.m. and will end at approximately 8 p.m. For more information, contact the Texas Tech Alumni Association at (806) 742-3641.
The Red Raiders enter Tuesday's game on the last leg of a five-game road trip that began last Tuesday at TCU. Tech dropped 3-of-4 games this past week but all three losses were against teams ranked in the Top 25. Tech fell to No. 24 TCU on Tuesday 7-2 before falling to No. 20 USC 6-1 on Friday. The Red Raiders snapped their two-game slide with a 14-10 come-from-behind win over UC-Irvine on Saturday but fell victim to a 10th-inning rally by No. 9 Wichita State on Sunday as the Shockers prevailed 6-5. Despite dropping three games last week, Tech remained in the Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Top 25 Poll at No. 24 but dropped out of the Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball Magazine polls.
Like Texas Tech, Houston just returned from a trip to California as the Cougars played a three-game series at Long Beach State over the weekend. Houston took the first game of the series against The Beach 2-1 on Friday but Long Beach State claimed the series by winning the final two games. The Cougars are 7-11 on the season but have played five teams that are ranked in the Top 25.
