Four Lady Raiders Named Academic All-Big 12

DALLAS - The Big 12 Conference takes great pleasure in honoring 46 student-athletes who have been named to the 2005 Women's Basketball Academic All-Big 12 Teams, the conference office announced Wednesday. Texas Tech juniors Chesley Dabbs and Erin Grant and sophomore Brooke Baughman were named to the first team, while sophomore Alesha Robertson was named to the second team.
It marks the second honor for Dabbs and Grant, while Baughman and Robertson are first-time honorees. Dabbs, a native of Plano, Texas, is a finance and general business major. The Arlington, Texas, native Grant is majoring in marketing and general business and will graduate this May in just three years. Baughman, who hails from Canyon, Texas, is an exercise sport science major, and fellow classmate Robertson, a Plainview, Texas, native, is also majoring in exercise sport science.
The Big 12 awarded 21 repeat honors, which included Dabbs and Grant.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the women's basketball academic all-league squad consists of 32 first-team members combined with nine student-athletes on the second team. First-team members are those student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better grade point average, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
