LUBBOCK, Texas - No.36 Texas Tech men's golf finished third at the Aggie Invitational at the Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas, today. The Red Raiders (294-291-297-882), who began the day in fourth, were 18-over par on the par-72, 7,146-yard course.
Two Red Raiders shot their way to top-10 finishes on the final day. Tech was led by junior Andrew Dresser, who began the round tied for 16th, shot a final-round 71 to finish one-over par, and seventh for the tournament. It is Dresser's highest finish of the season and gives him three top-10 finishes for the season. Oscar Floren (73-71-75-219) finished the tournament three-over par and tied for tenth place, which gives the sophomore his third top-10 finish of the season and seventh of his career.
Junior Tyler Symons (72-74-76-222) finished in a tied for 18th place with his six-over par performance. Senior Shaun Melville (76-75-75-226) and junior Nicolas Allain (78-73-77-228) rounded out the Red Raiders' team with 10- and 12-over par finishes, respectively.
Red Raider junior William Haddrell (79-83-76-238) competed as an individual and moved up five spots during the round to finish tied for 65th.
No.2-ranked, and fellow Big 12 member, Oklahoma State won the Aggie Invitational after shooting 290 in every round to finish at six-over par. No. 5 New Mexico (286-294-292-872) was second at eight-over par.
The Red Raiders finished ahead of five higher-ranked teams in the field. No.34 University of Oklahoma (296-299-294-889) and No.29 SMU (293-289-309-891) round out the top 5 in fourth and fifth, respectively. No. 13 University of Texas (300-291-301-892) finished in the sixth position.
The third-place finish for the Red Raiders is their highest finish of the spring season, outdoing their previous-best of finishing sixth at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La.
The field included five other Big 12 opponents that the Red Raiders will face, along with the rest of the Big 12, in two weeks at the Big 12 Championships. The tournament will be held April 29 through May 1 in Trinity, Texas.
