- Texas Tech now leads the all-time series with Kansas 21-8. The Kansas win snapped a four-game losing skid against the Red Raiders.
- Junior Travis Young made his first appearance on the mound for Tech as he pitched the 1/3 of the ninth.
- Texas Tech recognized the 1995 Southwest Conference Championship team in a pre-game ceremony. A total of 10 players from that team came back to campus for a two-day reunion.
- Senior third baseman Carey Avants extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a base hit in the bottom of the ninth.
