RED RAIDERS HOST NEW MEXICO IN MIDWEEK ACTION The Texas Tech Red Raiders get a much needed break from Big 12 action this week as Tech will host New Mexico on Tuesday evening at Dan Law Field. The game with New Mexico is the second of three scheduled contests this season and will get underway at 6:30 p.m. Texas Tech also announced on Monday that the Red Raiders have added a game with College of the Southwest on Wednesday afternoon. That game is set for 1 p.m. and will replace Sunday's game against Kansas that was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Red Raiders enter the Tuesday game looking for some momentum after a 13-7 loss to Kansas on Saturday and then a rain out on Sunday. Texas Tech desperately needed a win on Sunday to help move its Big 12 record closer to .500. Tech will now have to try its hand against first place Baylor in Waco over the weekend and that will be no easy task as the Bears are one of the hottest teams in the league. The loss to Kansas on Saturday dropped Tech's overall record to 25-14 and was the squad's fifth loss at Dan Law Field.
The New Mexico Lobos will be looking for their own momentum on Tuesday when they arrive at Dan Law. The Lobos were swept in a three-game series at UNLV over the weekend, including a 16-15 heartbreaker on Sunday. The UNLV sweep gives the Lobos a four-game losing streak and they are now 19-22 on the season and 9-9 in the Mountain West.
The Lobos have an overall team batting average of .330, but like Texas Tech their problems come on the mound as they have an 8.07 ERA. Jordan Pacheco is the leading hitter for the Lobos with a .422 clip along with 14 doubles, 10 home runs and 35 RBI. Only one Lobo pitcher has an ERA under 5.00 and that is Tuesday's starter Tyler Cales (4.91).
Tickets for Tuesday's game are currently on sale through the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office at (806) 742-TECH or 1-888-GOBIG12.
