Grant Named Lady Raider Basketball MVP

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball team presented its annual end-of-the-year awards today during a team gathering, marking another successful year for the Lady Raider program.
Head coach Marsha Sharp presented the annual awards as junior Erin Grant was honored as this year's Most Valuable Player and junior LaToya Davis was the recipient of the Fighting Heart Award. Both awards were voted on by the team.
A first team All-Big 12 selection, Grant became Texas Tech's all-time career leader in assists (661) and set the junior class record for assists in a season (218). The Arlington, Texas, native averaged 8.2 points and 7.0 assists per game for the Lady Raiders. Grant was also a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top point guard. This is Grant's second team MVP honor as she was the recipient of the award in 2004 as well.
The emotional leader Davis, who was named honorable mention All-Big 12, was second on the team in scoring and rebounding as she averaged 12.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest this season. Davis, a native of Houston, Texas, led the team in double-digit scoring as she poured in 10 or more points in 23 games. She also had five double-doubles on the year. This is Davis' first Fighting Heart Award.
The Lady Raiders finished the year with an overall record of 24-8, while advancing to their 16th-straight appearance in the NCAA Championship. Tech was ranked 12th in the final USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Coaches poll and was 14th in the Associated Press final poll.
