Tech Golf Drives into Phoenix

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No.29 Texas Tech men's golf team will head into Phoenix this weekend April 8-9, to compete amongst the nation's best at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. Facing five teams ranked in the top 20, the Red Raiders will be tested and challenged to finish in the top five after finishing 11th just three days ago at the Morris Williams in Austin.
Junior Andrew Dresser led the Red Raider's drive at the Morris Williams and currently holds the teams second-lowest stroke average of a 74.13. Leading the Red Raiders thus far this season is sophomore Oscar Floren carding a 73 average.
Tech is making its third appearance at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, with defending champion and host ASU the favorite as the Sun Devils have taken the title home 13 times in the tournament's history. Tech's best finish came in its first year of competition in 2003, as it finished seventh out of 16 teams.
Tech's road will not be easy as it enters the contest with the challenge of facing some of the nation's best teams filling the 15-team field. The competitors include No.2 UNLV, No.8 BYU, No. 11 UCLA, No.15 ASU, No.17 Arizona, No.29 Tech, No.44 Pepperdine, No.55 Stanford, No.61 Kansas State, No.66 California, No.67 Colorado State, No.73 Oregon, No.85 Penn State and No.97 Hawaii.
The 54-hole event will begin on Fri., April 8 with 36-holes to be played on a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m., followed by the remaining 18 holes to played off tee times beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Competition will be at the ASU Karsten Golf Course (Par 72, 7, 037 yards), with results available on Tech's website, www.texastech.com following the conclusion of the days events.
