Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech track and field will be competing in the Big 12 Championships this weekend in Manhattan, Kansas. The Kansas State Wildcats are the 2005 host and the meet is slated for Fri., May 13 through Sun., May 15.
Tech will be traveling four defending champions who are looking to recapture their titles. Jonathan Johnson is on the hunt for his fourth-consecutive title in the 800M. Another crown in Manhattan would lead Johnson to be only the third individual in the history of the Big 12 to four-peat in an event. Derrick Peterson, formerly of Missouri, and Jacob Davis, formerly of Texas, both won four consecutive titles in the 800M and the pole vault, respectively, during the 1997-2000 seasons.
Sophomore Bryan Scott is set to defend his 2004 title in the 400M hurdles. Scott was crowned champion during his freshman campaign and is currently leading the conference in the event.
Lacy Wilson and Licretia Sibley both took home titles from the 2005 indoor conference championships. Wilson, in the high jump, is also leading the Big 12 in the event with her school-record mark of 6'-0.75". Sibley, a standout sprinter, is currently ranked in the conference in the 200M, the 400M and as the anchor of the 4x400M relay.
Tech finished the 2004 Championships with a second-place finish for the men's squad and a fifth-place finish for the women's squad, the highest in school history for both teams.
The Red Raiders are currently leading the Big 12 in 10 events and are heading into this weekend having recorded 126 regional qualifying marks from 40 athletes.
In the national rankings, the men's team is seated at 20th for the second consecutive week. Individually, Johnson is ranked at the top in the 800M, Tyree Gailes sits at 12th in the 100M, and the men's 4x100M and 4x400M are ranked 12th and fifth, respectively.

Lacy Wilson sits at ninth in the high jump while Tori Polk rounds out the long jump in the 12th position.
