Pole Vaulters, High Jumpers Dominate Day Two of Big 12

Manhattan, Kan. - The Tech pole vaulting crew captured third, fifth, sixth and eighth place finishes earning 13.5 points. Four vaulters also posted regional qualifying marks. The women's high jumpers claimed third through fifth place and earned 15 points.
Bobby Most led the way in the pole vault with a bronze finish and a clearance of 17'-10.5". Seth Harris finished in fifth place with a 17'-2.75" while Sage Thames marked a height of 16'-10.75", his first regional qualifying mark of the season. Chris Ashcraft rounded out the top eight and the all-conference performers with a mark of 16'-10.75".
In the high jump, Lacy Wilson was the top Tech finisher in third place with a height of 5'-8.75". Julianne Kennedy earned her second all-conference honor of the day with a fourth-place finish and a mark of 5'-8.75", a new personal best. Misty Coley rounded out the Red Raiders with a clearance of 5'-7" and a fifth-place finish.
Kennedy also finished in seventh place in the heptathlon with 4,937 points, a new school record, and her third all-conference honor of her freshman campaign. Kennedy replaced her previous school record of 4,709 set at Texas Relays in April.
Bobby Evers marked a leap of 24'-0.25" in the long jump, good for an eighth-place finish and all-conference honors.
Brionne Yosten finished sixth in the prelims of the 1500M with a time of 4:30.38, qualifying for the finals.
In the 110M hurdles prelims, Marlon Odom finished in first place with a clocking of 13.68 while Shawon Harris finished in eighth place with a time of 14.08. Both will compete in the finals tomorrow.
Tech will advance three to the finals in the 400M hurdles as Bryan Scott (51.67), Terry Beard (52.12) and Shawon Harris (51.96) all finished in the top eight in the prelims.
In the men's 400M finals, Tech will be represented by four athletes as Michael Mathieu finished second and clocked a 47.02, Andrae Williams ran a 47.20, Terry Beard ran a 47.56 and Johnny Jacob finished in fifth place with a 46.47.
JaToya Moore and Tyree Gailes clocked times of 11.72 and 10.30, respectively, in the 100M dash. Both will compete in the finals tomorrow.
Moore and Shereefa Lloyd qualified for the finals of the 200M with clockings of 23.56 and 23.53, respectively.
Lloyd and Licretia Sibley will be running in the finals of the 400M after recording times of 53.49 and 53.94, respectively, in the prelims.
In the men's 200M, Tyree Gailes (20.62), Andrae Williams (20.66), Michael Mathieu (20.97) and Earvin Parker (21.10) all qualified for the finals in the event after placing in the top eight in the prelims.
Althea Chambers and Jonathan Johnson registered times of 2:09.00 and 1:50.90, respectively, in the 800M and will compete in the finals of the event on Sunday.
After day two, the Tech women are in fourth-place with 27 points and the men are in eighth place with 19.5 points.
Day three of the 2005 Big 12 Championships will resume at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
