LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head women's basketball coach Marsha Sharp has announced that longtime assistant coach Linden Weese has resigned from his position to pursue a head coaching position. Weese served on Sharp's staff for the past 23 years.
"For the past 23 years I have had the opportunity to be a part of the Texas Tech women's basketball program, watching our players graduate, participating in tournaments on every level and being a part of every coach's dream - a national championship," said Weese.
During his time at Tech, Weese has been part of all the Southwest Conference championships, three Big 12 Conference regular-season and two Big 12 Conference Tournament crowns, 18 NCAA tournaments, four NCAA Elite Eight and 11 Sweet 16 appearances and the 1993 National Championship.
"There is no way I could begin to express how important Linden Weese has been to Lady Raider basketball for over 20 years," said Sharp. "Even though he won't be with us day-to-day, he will always be a huge part of the Lady Raider basketball program. We will continue to enjoy our strong friendship. We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."
Weese has coached many standout post players during his time with the Lady Raiders. His protégés have twice been named Newcomer of the Year in the SWC, four times named All-SWC first team, eight times named to the Dr Pepper/SWC All-Tournament team and two have been named the league's Most Valuable Player and the SWC Female Athlete of the Year. In the Big 12, he has coached two players to conference Player of the Year honors, four first team All-Big 12 selections, three second team honorees and two honorable mention selections and a Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
"I have had the honor of working along side a Women's Basketball Hall of Fame coach and a terrific staff. I cherish all the memories and friendships that were made along the way and thank my wife, Gay, and our children, Stacy, Jason, Annalee, Bradley and Melissa for their unconditional love and support," stated Weese. "I will be leaving Texas Tech to pursue a head coaching position. I wish Coach Sharp and her wonderful staff the very best in the future, and thank all of them and the Lady Raider nation for a great ride."
