Soccer Releases 2005 Schedule

Lubbock, Texas- Texas Tech soccer head coach Neil McGuire announced the 2005 schedule this afternoon. The Red Raiders will host eight home events and travel for 11 games, for a total of 19 matches.
The Red Raiders open up the season on Friday, Aug. 26, at regional-foe TCU, in Dallas. After the short trip to Dallas, the team returns to Lubbock for its home opener against SMU, at R.P. Fuller Stadium, on Sun. Aug. 28.
Other non-conference opponents include Sam Houston State (8/30), Oral Roberts (9/9), Tulsa (9/11), UTEP (9/16) and Colorado College (10/7). The Red Raiders will face-off against Northwestern and Minnesota, both of the Big 10 Conference, for the first time in Tech soccer history. The Wildcats and the Gophers will both be traveling to Lubbock, Sept. 2 and Sept. 4, respectively.
The conference season begins for Tech on Fri., Sept. 23, as the Red Raiders face the Cyclones of Iowa State in Lubbock. Also traveling to the Hub City during the 2005 season will be Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Colorado. Tech will travel to play at Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Baylor.
Five Big 12 soccer teams were among the 64-team field for the 2004 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. Big 12 participants were Texas A&M, who received the Big 12's automatic berth after winning the Big 12 Soccer Tournament, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Texas.
Texas A&M ended the season with a ranking of no. 15 on the NSCAA/adidas Poll. Texas earned the 16th spot on the list. The Kansas Jayhwaks were ranked 18th at the conclusion of the season. Nebraska rounded out the Big 12 institutions ranked with the 22nd spot. The Colorado Buffaloes were among those teams receiving votes.
The 2005 season will kick-off Fri., Aug. 26, as the Red Raiders travel to Dallas to take on the Horned Frogs of TCU. For complete details of Texas Tech soccer, visit www.texas.tech.com.
