I started my Australian trip out right with the Lady Raiders. It is only the first day and I have learned so many things and gotten to see so many different places. After flying 14 hours from Los Angeles, we happily arrived in Sydney, Australia. I think most of us slept pretty well on the plane, so we were raring to go at 7:30 a.m. this morning June 24 (which was 4:30 p.m. in Lubbock on June 23).
I fell in love with Sydney the minute we stepped out of the Sydney airport. The first thing we saw was a beautiful rainbow! I loved it. This morning we got to go on a two-hour tour of Sydney and got a little history behind it. One thing I learned was that Sydney is the largest city in Australia with four million people. We then got to go to the Sydney Harbour, which was an amazing sight. The scenery was beautiful. We got to see the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The bridge is huge and it allows people to climb to the very top of it. The Lady Raiders and I got to take a picture with the bridge in the background. The Harbour is a place I would spend a lot of time at if I lived in Sydney. As we went on the tour, I got to see Russell Crowe's apartment. He supposedly has an apartment here. Next, we went to a market that had many things people back home would love.
After the tour, we went to check in at the Marriott, which is very nice. We then were able to go walk around down by our hotel. I went with my teammates to go see all the stores and shops. The thing I noticed the most when we were walking was everyone walks 10 times faster than us. I felt like I was getting run over; I'm going to have to step it up a little bit. They also drive on the wrong side of the road and their steering wheel is on the right side instead of the left side. I love the way they talk. I think they can tell we are from Texas.
I was about 3 p.m. here in Sydney and we got really tired. We went back to the hotel and took a nap. We then woke up and some of us went to the Sydney Aquarium. It was awesome! There were so many kinds of fish. Some were big, some were little. Some were pretty and some were ugly. Some were cute and some were scary. I think my favorite part was the sharks. We took a whole lot of pictures! I have used one roll of film already and it is only the first day. I wonder how much money I am going to spend on film. The aquarium was really awesome to see.
After the aquarium, we went back to the hotel and it was finally time to go to bed!
Sydney is the kind of place that helps remind me to be thankful for the awesome job God has done is creating the world. I am already having a great time and can't wait to see what else Australia has to offer. I am so thankful God and Coach Sharp have given me the opportunity to be here! It's a trip of a lifetime.
See you when we get back to Lubbock!!!
