Lady Raiders Defeat Sydney Flames, 78-66

BRISBANE, QLD, Australia - The Texas Tech women's basketball team improved its Australian tour record to 4-0 with a 12-point victory as it defeated the Sydney Flames, 78-66, in Brisbane on Thurs., June 30.
Tech started the game down by seven points at 9-2 before going on an 11-3 run to take its first lead of the game at 13-12 with 6:10 remaining in the first quarter. There were three lead changes in the first period as the Lady Raiders took the last lead at the 2:23 mark with a score of 19-18.
In the second quarter, the Flames tied the game at 27-27 at 6:59 mark, but Tech scored on its next two possessions and never relinquished its lead. Tech held a 44-38 advantage at the half.
The Lady Raiders opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run before the Flames scored their first bucket at 7:22. Tech was up by 14, 62-48, after the first three periods.
In the final quarter, the Lady Raiders saw their biggest advantage of 18 points at 68-50 with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. The Flames did not get any closer than nine points, which occurred on two occasions, with the last coming at 73-64 with 2:57 left in the contest. Tech held the Flames to just two points in the final three minutes to win 78-66.
All five starters scored in double figures led by LaToya Davis with her third double-double of the tour with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Alesha Robertson finished with 13 points, while Erin Grant had 12 and Chesley Dabbs and Erin Myrick each chipped in 10 points apiece. Dabbs also had a double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds. Grant dished out seven assists and Myrick tallied two steals.
The Lady Raiders shot 34.1 percent from the field (30-88), 18.8 percent from three-point range (6-32) and 63.2 percent from the free throw line (12-19). The Sydney Flames hit 23 of their 60 shots for 38.3 percent.
Tech will play its last game of its Australian tomorrow Fri., July 1 at 6:30 p.m. local time against Townsville in Cairns, Australia.
