Lady Raiders Get Past Townsville, 79-71

CAIRNS, QLD, Australia - LaToya Davis recorded her fourth double-double of the Australian tour with 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Texas Tech women's basketball team to a 79-71 win against the Townsville Fire of the WNBL in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. The Lady Raiders wrap up their Australian tour with a perfect 5-0 record.
The first quarter saw six lead changes between the Lady Raiders and the Fire. The last lead change occurred with just over four minutes to go in the quarter as Tech went up 13-12 and never gave up the lead again. Tech finished the period with a 24-15 advantage before going into the half with a 42-34 lead.
The Lady Raiders got their biggest lead of the game of 17 points, 59-42, with four minutes to go in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Townsville got within six points, which happened three times. Tech took a 13-point advantage at 71-58 with 3:50 left in the game and hung on to win by eight points, 79-71.
Along with Davis, Chesley Dabbs and Alesha Robertson both put up double-doubles as Dabbs finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Robertson chipped in 14 points and 10 boards. Erin Myrick scored in double digits with 10 points and added seven rebounds. Erin Grant collected eight assists, while Brooke Baughman and Tawanna Flowers both had two steals.
The Lady Raiders shot 37.5 percent from the field, connecting on 30 of 80 shot attempts. Tech was 3-for-14 from three-point range for 21.4 percent and 16-for-18 from the charity stripe for 88.9 percent.
Tech finished its Australian tour with two wins against the Australian Junior National Team, a win over the Southern Districts Spartans and victories against two teams from Australia's WNBL - the Sydney Flames and the Townsville Fire. The Lady Raiders will stay in Cairns (pronounced Cans) for two more days before returning to the United States on July 4.
