LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team will travel to Huntsville, Texas, on Tuesday to battle Sam Houston State as it attempts to capture its first win of the season. The Red Raiders and Bearkats will kick off at 3 p.m.
The Red Raiders fell 3-1 to the SMU Mustangs this past Sunday at R.P. Fuller Stadium. Senior forward Kimmie Davis notched her first goal of the season, but it was not enough to lift Tech to a victory. The Red Raiders dropped its season-opening match on Friday, falling to TCU by a score of 4-0 in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Tuesday's match will be the first of the season for Sam Houston State. Last season, the Bearkats finished 2-17-1 overall and finished eighth in the Southland Conference with a record of 1-10-1. The Bearkat soccer program is in its third season of soccer and returns six starters and 14 letterwinners from a season ago. The team is expected to be led by forward Tofie Chavez and defender Danielle Porth, both All-Southland Conference honorable mention selections in 2004, and senior Kim Brown, who was an All-SLC selection two years ago.
