Volleyball Set to Face Oklahoma in Lubbock

Lubbock, Texas- The Red Raider volleyball team will take on the Oklahoma Sooners, at the United Spirit Arena, Wed., Sept. 21. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. Tech sits at 6-5 and 0-2 in Big 12 play this season. Both teams are looking for their first conference victory of the season.
Last time out, the Red Raiders were swept by the Kansas State Wildcats at Ahearn Fieldhouse, in Manhattan, Kan. Starters for the match were senior Desiree Batista, juniors Jamye Pauley, Philister Sang and Kiley Lyons, and sophomores Amy Charlebois, Emily Ziegler and Lindsey Louis.
Ziegler was the Red Raiders' setter and posted a season match-high of 38 assists. The offense was shouldered by Pauley who tallied nine kills and a hitting percentage of .692 (13 attempts, zero errors). Sang and Charlebois pitched in with 14 and nine kills, respectively.
Tech was out hit .470 to .213 as they registered nine service errors. The Red Raiders also had to battle back from 21 hitting errors.
The Sooners are sitting at 5-5 on the season and have yet to claim their first Big 12 victory after dropping matches to Kansas and no. 22 Kansas State. OU earned pre-conference wins over TCU, Indiana, Loyola, UT-Arlington and UT-San Antonio. The Sooners were picked to finish ninth in the Big 12, ahead of the Red Raiders, after finishing in a tie for ninth place during the 2004 campaign.
At the last meeting between the two teams, Oklahoma came away with a 3-2 victory in Norman. Tech leads the series with the Sooners, 34-12.
