
Men's Track Opens Season with No. 9 Ranking

Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech men's track team, the defending Big 12 Outdoor Champions, open the 2006 season ranked No. 9 in the nation, it was announced by Trackwire 25, today. The ranking of No. 9 matches the program's best that it first received on Feb. 1, 2005.
In conference action, the Red Raiders are ranked ahead of Texas A&M (12th), Kansas (t13th), Kansas State (t20th), Baylor (t25th) and Oklahoma (t25th).
Individually, All-Americans Andrae Williams and Michael Mathieu are ranked second and 10th, respectively in the Dandy Dozen 400M. In the 60M hurdles, Daryl Burgess sits at fifth and All-American and Big 12 Champion Marlon Odom is seated at sixth. The 4x400M relay is currently third behind LSU and Baylor, respectively. All-American Seth Harris is ranked 10th in the pole vault.
On the women's side, in the Dandy Dozen, Althea Chambers is ranked eighth in the 800M and All-American Tori Polk sits at third in the long jump.
Texas Tech track and field returns to competition Fri., Jan. 20, at the Wes Kittley Invitational, at the Athletic Training Center. The field events will begin at 3:30 p.m. and the running events will follow at 5 p.m.
