SATURDAY'S GAME
Texas Tech and Iowa State meet for the seventh time in series history. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and there is no TV for the game. The Red Raiders are 4-3 on the season and coming off of their second-straight loss, 3-6 at Colorado. Tech is 1-2 in Big 12 Conference action. The Cyclones fell to Oklahoma, 34-9, and are 3-4 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
RED RAIDERS HOLD SERIES ADVANTAGE
Texas Tech and Iowa State have played six times in the series' history. As members of the Big 12 Conference, the teams have faced off four times, with Tech leading 3-1. Overall, Tech carries a 5-1 advantage into this weekend's game in a series that dates back to the 1967 season. The Red Raiders won the initial contest 52-0 in Lubbock in 1967 and followed with a 24-3 win at home when the teams met in 1974. Iowa State picked up its first win, 31-17, in Ames in 2002. The Red Raiders countered with a 52-21 victory the following season at home.
TECH RECORDS FELL IN LAST MEETING
Texas Tech set the school total offense record for plays and yards when the Red Raiders totaled 111 snaps and 775 yards of total offense in a 52-21 win against the Cyclones in 2003. The yardage total is actually the second most in school history, behind the 1,271 yards against Wayland in 1925. The record of 775 yards reflects the modern era since 1950.
THE COACHES
Red Raiders head coach Mike Leach is 52-31 at Texas Tech and is in his seventh season at the helm of the Red Raider program. Cyclones head coach Dan McCarney is in his 12th season at Iowa State with a 55-81 career record at the school.
RED RAIDERS AGAINST THE BIG 12 CONFERENCE
Texas Tech holds a series lead over four Big 12 members, including Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Baylor, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M all hold series advantages over the Red Raiders, while last weekend's loss at Colorado tied the series between the two schools. The schedule changed for Tech this season, as two-year series with Kansas, Kansas State and Nebraska came to an end last season. In addition to its five opponents from the Big 12 South, Tech faces Missouri, Iowa State and Colorado from the Big 12 North this season on consecutive weekend, beginning Oct. 7. Since 1996 the Red Raiders are 31-17 against teams from the North Division, including six straight during the 2004-05 seasons.
RECORD MIRRORS 2001
Texas Tech's 1-2 mark in league play marks the first time since 2001 that the team has started with the same record. That year the Red Raiders also were 4-3 after seven games and ended up advancing to the Alamo Bowl against Iowa. Texas Tech finished conference play with a 4-4 record and 6-5 overall mark in the regular season.
NEXT WEEK
Texas Tech hosts defending national champion Texas at Jones AT&T Stadium next weekend in the first back-to-back home games of the season. The Red Raiders hold three of their last four games of the regular season at home as Baylor (Nov. 4) and Oklahoma State (Nov. 18) visit Lubbock. Tech travels to Oklahoma (Nov. 11) for the season's final road tilt.
RED RAIDER HISTORY
Texas Tech has played 891 games throughout the 82-year history of the program, which began in 1925. Tech's overall record is 478-381-32 (.555). That includes a 302-150-13 mark at home and a 172-171-6 (.504) record in league games.
Mike Leach - TEXAS TECH SEVENTH-YEAR HEAD COACH
Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach is in his seventh season at the helm of the Red Raider program. One of the game's top offensive minds, Leach has guided the Red Raiders to four-straight NCAA Passing Titles, including B.J. Symons' single-season NCAA mark of 5,833 in 2003. Leach has a 52-31 overall record and 28-23 mark in Big 12 play. He led the Red Raiders to their best Big 12 finish in 2005 with a second-place showing in the South Division and an overall 9-3 season. With the win over UTEP, Leach passed former Tech head coach DeWitt Weaver (1951-60) and is in third place on the Tech wins list. Leach also reached his win total quicker than any of Tech's previous coaches and has taken the team to an unprecedented six-straight bowl appearances. Additionally, Tech's seven shutouts under Leach are the most for a Red Raider coach since Dell Morgan's 20 shutouts (1941-50).
TRLICA NEARING SCORING MARK
Junior PK Alex Trlica needs two points to become the school's all-time scoring leader for a kicker. He moved into seventh place on the overall career scoring list with 216 points after accounting for seven points in the win at Texas A&M and three points in the Missouri loss. He trails Lin Elliott (220 from 1988-91) by one. In just over two years as Tech's placekicker, Trlica has gathered his 219 points on 27 field goals and 138 extra point conversions. Additionally, he hasn't missed an extra point attempt in his career. Over the course of his career, Trlica is averaging 7.3 points per game and currently leads the team with 44 points. Trlica also has made his last five field goals, marking his longest streak since knocking in six straight between the Nebraska and Baylor games last season.

PASS DEFENSE RANKS EIGHTH NATIONALLY
Texas Tech has continued last year's success as the nation's No. 15 pass defense and currently ranks 10th this season. Tech also leads the Big 12 Conference. The Red Raiders are suffocating opponents to the tune of 148.0 passing yards per game and have allowed only seven passing scores in as many games this season. Tech held two opponents below 100 yards.
PARKER, McBATH LEADING THAT PASS DEFENSE
Junior CB Chris Parker and sophomore S Darcel McBath have been outstanding additions to the starting lineup in the secondary this season. Both players tie for the team lead with two picks apiece, with Parker picking up his second against Missouri. McBath also has three pass breakups and is third on the team with 46 tackles. Parker has 18 stops this season. Additionally, fellow safety Joe Garcia leads the team with 51 tackles, while Tech's other starter in the secondary, senior CB Antonio Huffman, has 29 tackles.
DAWSON DOMINANT AT MIDWAY POINT
Senior DE Keyunta Dawson is anchoring a defensive line that has two players among the top five tacklers on the team. Dawson is fourth on the team with 41 tackles, has four and a half tackles for loss and four sacks. He also has three fumble recoveries this season, a forced fumble and four quarterback hurries. Along with DE Jake Ratliff, the duo has seven quarterback hurries between them and five sacks. Ratliff is the team's fifth-leading tackler with 30 and is third with four tackles for loss.
CROSSING THE LINE
Senior NT Chris Hudler moved up as the team leader with five total tackles for loss this season after recording one and a half against Colorado last weekend. Hudler finished the game with six tackles, including five solo stops. On the season he has 24 tackles and three sacks.
