Lady Raiders Defeat Houston Jaguars in First Exhibition Game

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball team defeated the Houston Jaguars, 74-56, in its first exhibition game of the season and the first appearance on the sidelines for new head coach Kristy Curry.
The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 17-2 lead as the Jaguars scored the first two points of the game and then Tech scored 17 straight in the first 10 and half minutes of the game to take the 15-point advantage. Tech went into the locker room at halftime with a 33-21 lead.
Senior Chesley Dabbs returned to the court after missing the 2005-06 season with a knee injury. Dabbs finished with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals in 23 minutes of action. Senior Alesha Robertson led all scorers with 17 points, scoring 16 of those 17 points in the second half. Also scoring in double figures was senior Patrice Edwards with 10 points. Junior Erin Myrick finished with 11 rebounds and five blocks.
The Jaguars were led by LaShinda Winters with 12 points.
On the night, Tech shot 43.5 percent from the field, connecting on 27-of-62 shot attempts. The Jaguars were 23-of-69 from the field for 33.7 percent.
The Lady Raiders will host Athletes in Action on Sun., Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. in their final exhibition game.
