The Game
Texas Tech plays its second game of the season and its first on the road as it takes on Houston on Tues., Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. at Hofheinz Pavilion. It is the season opener for the Cougars.
On the Air
There is no television coverage of the game. The game can be heard on the radio on the Texas Tech Sports Network as Ryan Hyatt calls the game. The can game also be heard on the internet at www.texastech.com through RaiderVision All-Access.
The Lady Raiders
Texas Tech is 1-0 on the year after beating Texas-San Antonio, 66-58, last Friday in its season opener. It also marked the debut of new head coach Kristy Curry. On the year, freshman Jordan Murphree leads the Lady Raiders in scoring with a 17.0 average followed by seniors Brooke Baughman and Chesley Dabbs at 15.0 points each. Junior Erin Myrick is the top rebounder, grabbing 13.0 rebounds. Dabbs is shooting a team-high 54.5 percent from the field and Baughman is shooting 50 percent from three-point range. Robertson is perfect from the charity stripe and Murphree is at 80 percent. Murphree has a team-high four assists, while sophomore Teddy Griffin leads the team in steals with two. Myrick is the top shot blocker with three blocks. Tech is shooting 38.7 percent from the field, 25 percent from the three-point arc and 58.3 percent from the free throw line.
Scouting the Opponent
Houston opens the season with its game against Texas Tech. The Cougars played two exhibition games prior to their game with the Lady Raiders. Houston fell to Lake Truck, 78-66, Oct. 29, and then beat the Houston Jaguars, 83-78, in overtime Nov. 10.
Houston returns six letterwinners, including four starters, from a team that went 12-17 last year. The Cougars top returners include junior Tye Jackson, who averaged 17.7 points and 6.0 rebounds last season and sophomore Sha'Ratta Hawkins, who had averages of 15.1 points and 5.7 rebounds last season.
The Coaches
Texas Tech head coach Kristy Curry is in her first year at the helm of the Lady Raider basketball program and enters the game with a 1-0 record. Curry is in her eighth year as a head coach with a career record of 180-51.
In his ninth year at the helm of the Cougars, Joe Curl begins the 2006-07 season with a record of 133-107. He is also in his 17th year as a head coach with a career record of 271-207.
Series Record
Two former Southwest Conference foes, Texas Tech and Houston, are meeting for the first time since 1996 when they met three times - Tech winning all three games that year. The Lady Raiders own a 32-13 record against the Cougars and have won the last 15 games, including the last meeting, 77-75, March 8, 1996, in the semifinals of the Southwest Conference Tournament in Dallas, Texas. The last time Houston was victorious was a 65-59 triumph in Houston Jan. 13, 1990. Tech is 12-8 against the Cougars in Houston.
Last Time Out
(AP) - Jordan Murphree scored 17 points as Texas Tech beat Texas-San Antonio 66-58 Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
The win gave Lady Raiders head coach Kristy Curry her first win at the school after taking over for longtime coach Marsha Sharp.
Tech built a 20-point lead at the 8:17 mark when Raquel Christian put Tech up 56-36.
Tech came out on a 20-8 run to start the second half, scoring on nine straight possessions. But the Roadrunners used a 16-2 run, including 10 points by Terrie Davis, to pull within six points with 3:45 remaining in the game. But they would get no closer.
Brooke Baughman and Chesley Dabbs each scored 15 points for Tech (1-0).
Erin Myrick got 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Raiders. Vivian Ewalefo scored 18 points to lead the Roadrunners (0-1) and Terrie Davis added 16 points. Tech lead 28-21 at halftime.
Lady Raider Coaches
When Kristy Curry was hired as head coach, she put together one of the top coaching staffs in the country. Joining Curry on the bench this season are associate head coach Bill Brock and assistant coaches Kelly Curry and Shereka Wright. Brock comes to Tech after spending the last six seasons at Baylor. Curry arrived on the South Plains after spending the past seven years at Purdue. Wright, who was an All-American for Curry at Purdue and plays in the WNBA, is in her first year in the coaching profession.
A Look Ahead
Texas Tech returns home to play Texas State on Sun., Nov. 19, for a 2 p.m. game. Former head coach Marsha Sharp will be honored at halftime of that game. The Lady Raiders will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, Nov. 24-26, for the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic. Tech will play host Hawaii on Fri., Nov. 24, at 9:30 p.m. CST and either Arkansas or Denver on Sat., Nov. 25, at 3:10 p.m. CST. The Sun., Nov. 26, opponent will be determined by tournament play. The Lady Raiders return home Wed., Nov. 29, to take on Tulane at 7 p.m.
Murphree Leads Lady Raiders
In her first collegiate game, freshman Jordan Murphree got the start and led the Lady Raider in scoring with 17 points against Texas-San Antonio. Murphree, who hails from Brock, Texas, also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists, while adding a block and a steal in 33 minutes of play.
Dabbs Gets Double Digits in First Game Back
Senior Chesley Dabbs poured in 15 points in the win over UTSA. It was her first game since March 27, 2005, against Tennessee in the NCAA Sweet 16 in Philadelphia. In the game against the Roadrunners, Dabbs also finished with six rebounds, three assists and one block in 34 minutes.
Baughman Makes Presence Known
Senior Brooke Baughman scored 15 points against UTSA, just one point shy of her career-high 16 points (vs. Texas in 2006). The 15 points marked the second-highest output for Baughman in a game in her career.
Myrick Nears Career-High Boards
Junior Erin Myrick was just one rebound shy of tying her career high of 14 rebounds. Myrick grabbed 13 boards versus Texas-San Antonio in the season opener. It marked the third time in her career for double-digit rebounds. Myrick's career high of 14 rebounds was established at Texas A&M last season.
500 Rebounds in Reach
Senior Alesha Robertson is nearing the 500 rebound mark. She currently has 486 boards. Last season, Robertson reached the 1,000-scoring plateau and now has 1,167 career points.
Griffin Sidelined
Junior Darrice Griffin will be sidelined for approximately three weeks after undergoing knee surgery on her right knee on Nov. 8. Griffin had a meniscectomy performed to remove the torn part of her meniscus. She had ACL surgery on the knee in June 2005 and played in the last 21 games of the 2005-06 season, and then had it scoped on September 1, of this year.
She's Back!
Senior Chesley Dabbs returns to the floor after missing the 2005-06 season after tearing her ACL and medial meniscus in her left knee during preseason workouts last year. Dabbs was an All-Big 12 second team selection in 2005 and averaged 12.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 32 games, in which she started all of them.
Preseason Honors
Senior Alesha Robertson was named preseason honorable mention All-Big 12 by the coaches.
Lady Raiders in the Polls
The Texas Tech Lady Raiders enter the 2006-07 season ranked 17th in the preseason top 25 poll by Street and Smith's.
Degrees in Hand
Seniors Chesley Dabbs and Patrice Edwards have already received their degrees. Edwards graduated last May with a degree in human development and family studies, while Dabbs graduated with a triple major of accounting, finance and general business last August.
Home Sweet Home
Texas Tech has won 100 of its 111 games it has played at the United Spirit Arena for a .901 winning percentage. Tech has produced five perfect seasons at home 1999-00 (16-0), 1998-99 (14-0), 1995-96 (16-0), 1992-93 (15-0) and 1991-92 (11-0).
Winning Percentage By Class
The senior class is 65-30 (.684) and 31-17 (.646) in the Big 12. Chesley Dabbs, who redshirted last year, posts a 79-22 (.782) record and 35-13 (.729) in the conference. The junior class is 40-22 (.645) and 21-11 (.656) in the league, while the sophomore class is 16-14 (.533) and 9-7 (.563). The freshmen are 1-0 (1.000).
On the Tube
Texas Tech will have 16 regular-season games televised this season. The Lady Raiders will play on ESPN2 once, FSN four times, FSN SW once, CSTV once and the Texas Tech Television Network nine times. On FSN, Tech will play at Oklahoma (Jan. 14), at Oklahoma State (Jan. 20), Oklahoma (Feb. 17), and at Texas (Feb. 24). Tech will play on FSN SW against Texas (Jan. 27) in Lubbock. Tech's game with Kansas State (Feb. 11) will be on ESPN2. The game at Kansas (Jan. 31) will be on CSTV on a taped delayed status. The Lady Raiders will have games against Texas-San Antonio (W, 66-58), Tulane (Nov. 29), Oral Roberts (Dec. 14), Furman (Dec. 21), at Baylor (Jan. 3), Oklahoma State (Jan. 6), Texas A&M (Jan. 10), Missouri (Jan. 17) and Baylor (Feb. 7) on the Texas Tech Television Network.

Lady Raider Basketball with Kristy Curry
Kristy Curry's weekly television show, Lady Raider Basketball with Kristy Curry, will be televised every Sunday. The show will air on FOX34 at 10:30 p.m. and My Lubbock TV at 11 p.m. during the football season and then at 10 p.m. on FOX34 and 10:30 p.m. on My Lubbock TV throughout the rest of the season. There will not be a show on Nov. 26 or Dec. 24.
The Kristy Curry Radio Show
The Kristy Curry Radio Show will be held each Monday starting Jan. 8 from 6-7 p.m. The show will air on KFYO-AM 790 and KKCL-FM 98.1 locally. The show will be held at p Neighborhood Grill and Bar located at 4th and Milwaukee.
