- A total of four true freshmen graced the starting lineup today for the Red Raiders. Tech's entire starting outfield at spacious Minute Maid Park consisted of true freshmen ( Roger Kieschnick, Drew Evans and James Leverton) while Willie
- Today's 5-1 setback to Rice marked the 10th-straight loss in the series. Tech's last win over the Owls was in the 1996 Southwest Conference Tournament at Dan Law Field.
- Junior right-hander Josh Tomlin did not return to the game in the fifth inning due to an injury to his throwing arm. Junior right-hander Matt Paradoski replaced Tomlin in the fifth inning and that marked his first appearance of the season.
- Sophomore Matt Smith has a four-game hitting streak and that ties his career high set during his freshman campaign in 2005.
- The Red Raiders are now 4-6 all-time in the Houston College Classic which annually fields the top collegiate teams in the nation.
- Senior Brian Capps made his first career start at shortstop today in replacement of Kyle Martin who is still nursing an injury on his throwing hand.
