Today's 5-1 setback to Rice marked the 10th-straight loss in the series. Tech's last win over the Owls was in the 1996 Southwest Conference Tournament at Dan Law Field.
Junior right-hander Josh Tomlin did not return to the game in the fifth inning due to an injury to his throwing arm. Junior right-hander Matt Paradoski replaced Tomlin in the fifth inning and that marked his first appearance of the season.
Sophomore Matt Smith has a four-game hitting streak and that ties his career high set during his freshman campaign in 2005.
The Red Raiders are now 4-6 all-time in the Houston College Classic which annually fields the top collegiate teams in the nation.
Senior Brian Capps made his first career start at shortstop today in replacement of Kyle Martin who is still nursing an injury on his throwing hand.
