ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla - The Texas Tech softball team dropped a pair of games to Southern Illinois and Central Florida on Saturday at the Triple Crown Classic in St. Augustine, Fla., dropping the team's record this season to 2-4.
Freshman Brooke Neuman paced the Tech offense's with three hits on the day, while left fielder Montana Patin went 2-for-3 at the plate in the day's final game of the day against Southern Illinois.
Senior pitcher Julie Hauck, who set a personal-best with eight strikeouts on Friday, started the first game of the day for the Red Raiders and responded by fanning a new career-best nine Central Florida batters to give her 21 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched this season.
Also in the contest against UCF, freshman Megan Shupp got the first start of her career in right field and posted a RBI single in the game's fourth inning.
Texas Tech's scheduled games at the Triple Crown Classic on Sunday have been cancelled due to inclement weather in the area and team travel arrangements. The Red Raiders are back in action next weekend when they travel to Tucson, Ariz., to take part in the University of Arizona Tournament.
