- Today's game marked the 23rd all-time meeting between Tech and UTA. The Red Raiders have now won 15-straight against the Mavericks and lead the all-time series 19-4.
- Senior center fielder Brian Capps now has a career-long seven game hitting streak and picked up his fourth three-hit game of the year. Capps went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and moved his season batting average back over the .500 mark (.511).
- Sophomore catcher Matt Smith took over the team lead in batting average thanks to a 3-for-3 night at the plate. Smith is now hitting .514 on the season and also added three more RBI to his season total (16). Smith now has five multiple-hit and four multiple-RBI games this year.
- Texas Tech scored 11 of its 15 runs with two outs in the inning and seven of its 15 runs were unearned.
- The Red Raiders are now 6-0 when scoring 10-plus runs and are 6-0 when leading after the seventh inning.
- Freshmen Roger Kieschnick and Willie Rueda extended their hitting streaks to six games. Kieschnick went 2-for-5 with an RBI while Rueda went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
- Joey Callender set a new career high with six at-bats on the evening. He finished the night 2-for-6 and tied his career high with three runs scored.
- Tech's last five-game win streak was six-game streak that began with a 22-7 win over Western Illinois on Feb. 20, 2005 and ended against Northern Iowa on March 4.
- The Tech defense played its second errorless game of the season and the second this week (Eastern New Mexico on Monday).
