- Tonight's game marked the 121st all-time meeting between Texas and Texas Tech. The Longhorns now own a 90-31 advantage in the all-time
- AJ Ramos became the first true freshman to start a regular-season game at Texas Tech since Monty Ward made a start against Texas A&M (March 30) during the Southwest Conference final season in 1996.
- Tonight's loss marked the first for the Red Raiders when being tied or trailing going into the bottom of the ninth inning.
- Junior designated hitter Tyler Reves had his 10-game hit streak snapped in tonight's 4-3 loss to Texas. Reves went 0-for-4 at the plate.
- Freshman second baseman Willie Rueda picked up his fifth multiple-hit game of the season as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Texas Tech is now 2-8 all-time in Big 12 Conference openers.
