- Today's game marked the 122st all-time meeting between Texas and Texas Tech. The Longhorns own a 90-32 advantage in the all-time series and are 41-17 against the Red Raiders in Lubbock. In Big 12 play, Texas Tech leads the series with Texas 15-12 and is now 7-4 against the Longhorns at Dan Law Field.
- Today's 2-1 win over Texas snapped a five-game losing streak to the Longhorns and is Texas Tech's first win over Horns at Dan Law Field since a 9-0 shutout on March 10, 2002.
- Miles Morgan's 15 strikeouts set a new career high for the redshirt freshman and is also the most by a Texas Tech pitcher in a Big 12 contest. Morgan also picked up a complete game and that marks the first by a Tech pitcher since Tanner McElroy went nine innings against Oklahoma on May 21, 2005.
- Today's win over the 16th-ranked Longhorns is Texas Tech's first win over a ranked opponent this season and the first since defeating then fifth-ranked Nebraska in the first game of the 2005 Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City.
- Today's game was Tech's fourth errorless game of the season and the first outing in which Tech pitching did not walk a batter. The last time Tech didn't allow a walk was at Oklahoma on May 21, 2005.
- Texas Tech is now 14-0 when leading after the seventh inning and 5-0 in games decided by one run.
- Freshman second baseman Willie Rueda picked up his third triple of the season in the bottom of the sixth and that helped set up Tech's first run of the game.
