Red Raiders Fall to No. 11 Georgia

FULLERTON, Calif. - On a wet cold day in Fullerton, Calif., Texas Tech dropped a 9-2 decision to No. 11 Georgia in the Red Raiders' first game at the 2006 Worth Invitational.
The contest which began at 9 a.m. local time was suspended in the middle of the second inning due to heavy rain fall and was resumed approximately 8;15 p.m. PST. The Red Raiders' scheduled contest against UC-Davis on Friday was cancelled and is not scheduled to be made up.
The loss drops Texas Tech's overall record this season to 5-13, while Georgia improves to 14-5.
The Red Raider offense was able to hit several balls hard in the middle innings of the contest, but were unable to push across an runs against Georgia pitcher Jessica Doucette allowing the Bulldogs to build a 9-0 lead.
In the sixth inning with Tech in danger of being shut out for the sixth time this season, sophomore second baseman Jennifer Bowers followed right fielder Whitney Riley, who had reached on a walk, with a long home run over the wall in left center field for her team-leading third home run of the season.
Texas Tech softball is back in action on Saturday as they face off against tournament host Cal-State Fullerton at 3:30 p.m. (CST) and No. 2 Tennessee at 8 p.m. (CST)
