Red Raiders Move Up in Golfweek Rankings

LUBBOCK, Texas - With two wins in its last four tournaments, including Sunday's dramatic come-from-behind win at the Aggie Invitational, the Texas Tech men's golf team moved up nine spots to No. 14 in the weekly Golfweek Magazine college rankings Tuesday. The rankings are the highest for the program under sixth-year head coach Greg Sands.
The Red Raiders entered last weekend's event ranked 23rd by Golfweek and 16th in the Golfstat rankings, where they remained this week. Tech's two wins this season match the highest single-season win total in school history.
Junior Oscar Floren climbed into the ninth position after winning his second tournament in his last four outings last weekend. Floren ranks 10th in the latest Golfstat rankings and is eighth nationally with a 71.19 stroke average. His three wins this season tie him for the most in a single-season at Tech with former All-Southwest Conference performer Bryan Novoa, who won three tournaments during the 1995-96 season.
Other notes of interest: Floren currently holds a career scoring average of 71.03 and is the only player in school history to average better than par in his career (-0.77) Floren ranks first nationally this season in par five scoring with a 4.52 average and fourth in greens in regulation (75.2) Floren has shot par or better in 20 of 30 rounds this season Floren ranks atop Tech's career scoring average list at 72.46, while teammateAndrew Dresser is second with a 72.93 career average Dresser is ninth nationally in fairways hit with an 81.4 percentage Texas Tech placed five players on the Big 12 All-Academic Team, tying Missouri and Texas for most representation in the Big 12 Five of Texas Tech head coach Greg Sands' six teams rank one through five on the Texas Tech season scoring average list, including this season's squad with a top round average of 290.13
