Red Raiders Finish in Fourth Place at Big 12 Championship

TULSA, Okla. - The Texas Tech men's golf team wrapped up play at the 2006 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday, completing a rain-shortened second round and posting a final round score of 295 to finish in a tie for fourth place with defending champion Oklahoma State at the event which was held at the Southern Hills Golf Course in Tulsa, Okla.

The Oklahoma Sooners wrapped up the Big 12 title by firing a team total of 284 in the final round to hold off Texas, who finished in second with a three-round total of 862. Texas A&M placed in second, just ahead of the Red Raiders and Cowboys who ended the event with identical 876 team stroke totals.

Senior Andrew Dresser was Texas Tech's most consistent player at the event, wrapping up play with a final round 73 to end in a tie for fourth place. The top five finish is the sixth of the season for the Carrollton, Texas, native. For his efforts, Dresser, along with other top ten finishers, at the event was selected to the All-Tournament team

Jake Younan-Wise, one of three Tech freshmen competing for the Red & Black, notched his second highest finish of the season, ending in a tie for 14th place with a three-round total of 219.

Junior Oscar Floren, who entered the event with Tech's lowest round average at 71.03, opened play with a first round 69, but could not continue the pace in the final two rounds. The Ljungskile, Sweden, native turned in a scorecard of 76 and 78 in the second and third rounds to end in a tie for 25th place.

First-year rookies Garrett Merrell and Santiago Rivas rounded out the Tech contingency at the tournament. Merrell saved his best round at the event for last, firing a third round 71 to end in a tie for 27th, while Rivas ended in a tie for 39th with a 227 total.
