TECH FACES BIG 12 LEADER NEBRASKA THIS WEEKEND IN LINCOLN
The Texas Tech Red Raiders head to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend to face the fourth-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers in a three-game series at Haymarket Park. The Huskers are one of the hottest teams in the nation and currently sit atop the Big 12 standings with a 12-3 record in league play. First pitch on Friday evening is set for 6:35 p.m. while Saturday's game will get underway at 2:05 p.m. The series finale is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Red Raider fans making the trip to Lincoln should call the Nebraska Athletics Ticket Office at 800-8BIGRED.
After suffering a rare home series sweep at home to then 13th-ranked Oklahoma, the road doesn't get an easier for the Red Raiders as Tech now faces a red-hot Nebraska squad. The Cornhuskers won a huge series this past weekend at Texas and now sits in first place in the Big 12 after dethroning the Longhorns. The Huskers are 16-2 at Haymarket Park this season and in their last home series against Texas A&M, they set a new stadium record with 8,757 in attendance for the Saturday game. The Red Raiders went 2-3 against Nebraska in 2005 and Tech won the series the last time these two teams played in Lincoln (2-1 in 2004).
Texas Tech still has plenty of chances to make the postseason but the Red Raiders need to get started this weekend in Lincoln. Tech is 27-17-1 on the season and is currently in eighth place in the Big 12 standings with a 6-10-1 league record. The parity in the Big 12 Conference means that the Red Raiders are just 2 1/2 games out of fourth place and Tech can make a move upward with a series win over the Huskers.
Friday's game will be televised by Cox Sports Television but will be tape delayed at 11 p.m. on Cox Cable Channel 9 in Lubbock.
