LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head women's basketball coach Kristy Curry announced today the signing of Maddy Brown (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./University of Pittsburgh) to a Texas Tech letter of intent. Brown is transferring from Pittsburgh and will enroll at Texas Tech this fall, but will sit out the 2006-07 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
"Maddy is a versatile left-handed guard that will provide experience and leadership on the perimeter," said Curry. "Having played a year in the Big East will definitely give us much needed experience as we lose three senior perimeter players as we prepare for the future. The year off will give her a chance to learn our system and improve her game. We are very excited to have Maddy join our program, and the Lady Raider Nation will enjoy watching her play."
Brown, a 5-10 guard, played in all 33 games with 12 starts last season and averaged 22.9 minutes a game as a freshman at Pitt. The Honeoye Falls, N.Y., native averaged 7.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists during her inaugural collegiate campaign. Brown shot 34.8 percent from the field, connecting on 80 of 230 shot attempts, including 44 of 133 three-point attempts for 33.1 percent. She also recorded 27 steals.
The 2005 New York State Player of the Year, Brown led Honeoye Falls-Lima High School to a state championship. She averaged 24.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Cougars as a senior and 23.5 points, 12.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a junior. Brown finished her high school career with over 2,000 points in four varsity seasons. She also earned numerous player of the year honors during her career.
