LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech football coaching staff welcomed 105 players Wednesday as newcomers and varsity returnees reported for the start of preseason training camp. Among the group were 78 scholarship players and 27 walk-ons.
The Red Raiders will go through physicals and a team meeting tonight following a team dinner. Practice officially gets underway Monday with a 6:30 p.m. workout following a day of orientation, meetings and wrapping up finals.
The Red Raiders will practice for the next 13-consecutive days, before taking a day off Sun., Aug. 20. Sandwiched in between are three days of two-a-days for the squad. The first scheduled day for full pads is Fri., Aug. 11. Tech hosts its annual Media/Autograph Day on Fri., Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. on the surface of Jones AT&T Stadium.
Monday's workout kicks off a series of 24-scheduled practices all leading up to the start of the 2006 season. Texas Tech kicks off the year against SMU on Sat., Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. at Jones AT&T Stadium.
