LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer defeated Prairie View A&M on Friday, shutting-out the Panthers by a score of 10-0 in Lubbock, Texas. The match kicked-off Red Raider Revolution. The stands at R.P. Fuller Stadium were full with close to 1,000 screaming fans supporting the Red Raiders to a victory.
The Red Raiders improve to 3-2 on the season with the victory, while Prairie View A&M drop to 0-3. Texas Tech was able to get the opening goal of the match at the 2:47 mark when sophomore forward, Chessa Pursur, fired a shot, with an assist by Sarabeth Clopton. Pursur continued to tally three goals in the first period. The other two goals were posted by freshman forward Peyton Pulaski and junior forward Priscilla Esquivel.
In the second period Pursur posted another goal for Texas Tech. At the 60:04 mark, freshman forward Brittney Harrison tallied the eighth goal with an assist by Zhaleh Rezaie. Sophomore forward Shanna Brown collected two goals to finish with the 10-0 advantage.
"I am pleased with the way we played this evening," said head coach Neil McGuire. "The team showed great positional and tactical discipline and as a result was able to get a lot of goals. I am very happy for Chessa Purser in that she scored 5 well earned goals, which is no easy task. I also must pay homage to our incredible fans as their support was terrific, and the energy they created was simply amazing. I hope for the player's sake that all our fans return to our game on Sunday, and bring friends with them. In trying to establish new traditions we were unsure of how the fans would take to them, however, they took charge and made all the difference. Please allow me to say a sincere thanks to all of you."
Texas Tech soccer will host Colorado College on Sunday. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start time. The Tigers enter the weekend with an overall record of 2-1. This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams.
