Phoenix - Jennifer Corkin hit a pair of home runs, including a second-inning grand slam, to lead the Red Raiders to an 11-1 mercy-rule win (5 innings) over the Wolfpack of Nevada (0-3) as Texas Tech improves to 3-1 on the season and at the Kajikawa Classic.
Sarah Losleben (1-1) picked up the win for Texas Tech as the junior scattered two hits, struck out six and walked one.
But, it was offense which highlighted the night for the Red Raiders as Texas Tech exploded for 11 runs on 14 hits. Corkin finished the night with the pair of home runs, a double and a career-high six RBI. Ashley Parker was three-for-three with three runs scored and an RBI, and Devin Zaragoza was two-for-three with two runs scored and had a stolen base.
Kelsey Starr doubled for the Wolfpack, who fell behind, 7-0, in the second (after Corkin's grand slam) and struggled to mount a serious threat. The Wolfpack did push a run across in the bottom of the fifth when, after Losleben gave way to Alex Watkins, pinch hitter Vanessa Briones drew a walk. Kym Silagyi pinch ran for Briones and was forced at second on a ground ball from Amanda Wise. A single by shortstop Sarah Hunt moved Wise to second. An out later, Brittany Puzey walked and advanced to second on an error by the catcher, Corkin. Wise scampered in from third to score the Wolfpack's run.
The Red Raiders conclude play at the 2007 Kajikawa Classic tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. (MT) with a match-up with the Oregon Ducks. Because this portion of the tournament is held on campus at ASU's Farrington Stadium, a broadcast is scheduled.
