LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech and SMU will kickoff the 2007 season Labor Day (Sept. 3) as both schools agreed to move the game from its originally scheduled Sept. 1 date to accommodate an ESPN broadcast. The network will televise the game live at 3 p.m. CT from Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas.
"We're pleased that our game at SMU has been selected by ESPN for national coverage," Texas Tech Director of Athletics Gerald Myers said. "This will provide great exposure for our team and enable our fans outside the Dallas area to see the Red Raiders play."
The former Southwest Conference rivals renewed on-field acquaintances in 2002 and played the following two years as well. The Red Raiders claimed a 35-3 win in Lubbock last season and have not lost a contest to the Mustangs since the 1986 campaign. Next season's clash will be the third in Dallas in the last five games.
Texas Tech holds a 28-15 advantage in the series and has won the last 11, including six in Dallas. The last time the teams met in the metro area, the Red Raiders pulled out a 27-13 win in 2004.
Next season's game will mark the first Monday contest for the Texas Tech program since kicking off the 1999 season at Arizona State on a Monday.
